The longevity of cranes are immeasurable, similar with tortoises.
They are both regarded as a symbol for longevity. Not only that but cranes alone symbolizes as auspicious and elegant, they are known for their faithfulness as they would not leave their partners for another.

It is said that cranes are also very responsible parents, they accompany and look after their children until they could provide for themselves. They are often seen in packs and even small flocks as they travel alongside each other. The older Chinese generation often use cranes as birthday wishes, as it has a positive meaning of longevity and good fortune.

鹤寿无量，它和龟一样，被视为长寿的象征，后世常以“鹤寿”、“鹤龄”、“鹤算”作为祝寿之词。丹顶鹤为长寿仙禽，吉祥典雅的标志。

丹顶鹤也是责任心极强的父母,对子女呵护备至,直到它们能够自立。它们常常成对、成家族群和结成小群活动。
